Heirs Energies Limited, an energy company controlled by Nigerian businessman and Seplat Energy Non-Executive Director Tony Elumelu, has acquired 6 million ordinary shares in Seplat Energy Plc for approximately £53.22 million, further increasing the combined stake held by entities controlled by Elumelu to 21.07%.
The transaction, executed on September 30, 2026 in London, was disclosed by Seplat Energy in a notification of dealing by a person discharging managerial responsibilities. The shares were acquired at £8.87 each, placing the total consideration at £53.22 million.
Following the purchase, Heirs Energies’ direct holding in Seplat Energy increased to 27,943,867 shares. Combined with the shares held by Heirs Holdings Limited, entities controlled by Elumelu now hold 126.4 million Seplat Energy shares, equivalent to a 21.07% voting interest based on Seplat Energy’s 599.94 million issued shares.
The acquisition adds to the substantial position built by the Heirs Group in Seplat Energy. Heirs Energies and Heirs Holdings acquired 120.4 million Seplat shares from Maurel & Prom in December 2025, representing a 20.07% stake at the time.
Elumelu joined Seplat Energy’s board as a Non-Executive Director on January 22, 2026, following the acquisition of Maurel & Prom’s stake. Seplat Energy has also announced that he will become Chairman of the company from January 1, 2027, as part of its leadership transition.
Seplat Energy is listed on both the Nigerian Exchange and the London Stock Exchange. The transaction was disclosed under the applicable Nigerian and UK market disclosure requirements.
The transaction involved 6 million shares acquired at £8.87 per share, giving a total value of £53.22 million. Following the transaction, Heirs Energies holds 27,943,867 shares, while Heirs Energies and Heirs Holdings collectively hold 126.4 million shares, representing a 21.07% voting interest in Seplat Energy.
