Reckitt, the global consumer health and hygiene company behind brands including Dettol, Durex, Mucinex and Finish, has appointed Ujunwa Chukwumah as General Manager, West Africa, effective September 15, 2026. She becomes the first Nigerian and first woman to lead Reckitt’s West Africa business.
Chukwumah joins Reckitt from Diageo, where she most recently served as Commercial Director for West and Central Africa, overseeing the company’s commercial operations across the region.
Her appointment places an experienced consumer goods executive at the helm of Reckitt’s West African business, with responsibility for driving commercial performance, sustainable growth, organisational capability and talent development across the region.
At Diageo, Chukwumah held a series of senior commercial roles, including Commercial Director, West and Central Africa, and General Manager, Mainstream Spirits and Ready-to-Drink. She had previously held leadership positions at Procter & Gamble, building a career spanning more than 19 years across the consumer goods sector.
Chukwumah’s move to Reckitt represents a transition between two major multinational consumer goods companies operating across African markets, following her regional commercial leadership role at Diageo.
Commenting on the appointment, Chukwumah said she was “deeply honoured to be the first Nigerian woman to lead Reckitt’s West Africa business”, adding that she hoped her journey would encourage more women to pursue senior leadership opportunities.
In her new role, Chukwumah will lead Reckitt’s business across West Africa as the company continues to grow its portfolio of consumer health, hygiene and wellness brands in the region.
