British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution, has announced a $7.5 million debt investment in Babban Gona, a Nigerian agri-tech platform aimed at enhancing food security and climate resilience for smallholder farmers in Northern Nigeria.

Babban Gona’s AI-powered platform addresses agriculture barriers in Northern Nigeria by providing end-to-end services, including high-quality inputs, financial credit, climate-smart training, and market access. Its franchise model empowers top-performing farmers to establish micro-enterprises, offering inputs and financing to others, with support to scale and secure local bank funding.
BII’s investment is expected to enhance yields, incomes, and climate resilience for approximately 140,000 smallholder farmers by 2029.
